Rebecca Romijn was so determined to accurately portray a transsexual in hit TV show ‘Ugly Betty’ BETTY, she asked her transgender pals for acting tips. The actress - who plays transsexual Alexis Meade in the comedy series - was desperate not to come across as a man in drag and wanted her character to be as glamorous as possible.She says, “I have several transgender friends, so a lot of choices I’ve made, especially early on, were made with them in mind. “One of my close friends is a man who became a woman and she’s as feminine as any biological women you’ve ever met. Another, I didn’t realise was transgender until I’d known her for years. “I felt this role was an incredible opportunity, something that hadn’t been done on primetime TV.”

Mutants stick together. After appearing as superheroes in X2: X-Men United, Alan Cumming and Rebecca Romijn will be reunited for the new film Hatter.

The feature debut for director James Killough, the story follows a fashion designer known for his wild lifestyle and a journalist who’s got inside dirt on some of his less than savory exploits.Alan Cumming

The pair wind up involved in a modern take on the Mad Hatter’s tea party from the classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

In other words, if the supporting characters are analogous to an irate queen and a Tweedledum/Tweedledee couple, then there’s no telling how interesting the rest of the casting process could get.

The party goes before the cameras in spring of 2008 for a tea party date somewhere in ‘09.

Rebecca Romijn wants Ugly Betty writers to make her character fat so she can have a baby, and has recently discussed writing a pregnancy into the show.

The blonde beauty - who plays transsexual Alexis Meade in the hit US TV show - is desperate to start a family with her actor husband Jerry O’Connell and they recently had dinner with ‘Ugly Betty’ producer Marco Pennette to discuss writing her pregnancy into the show.

Rebecca, 35, told the USA Today newspaper: “It could be a hysterical pregnancy. There are people who want to be pregnant so badly that they put on weight in that area. Or maybe Alexis could put on a tremendous amount of weight, and I’d wear a fat suit around the pregnancy.”

Jerry O’Connell has a nickname on the set of his ABC sitcom, Carpoolers.

“It’s the big joke on my set. Everyone on Carpoolers refers to me as ‘Stamos,’ ” says the actor, 33, who first connected with audiences as a child in 1986’s Stand By Me.

“Stamos,” of course, is a devilish nod to John Stamos, the ex-husband of O’Connell’s wife, Rebecca Romijn.

The ribbing is all in fun.

“I think it’s pretty funny, too,” says Romijn, who plays the transgender character Alexis Meade on ABC’s Ugly Betty. “And you know who’s going to think it’s the funniest out of everyone? Stamos. That’s right up his alley.”
